Our Journey: Lessons from the Pangani Model | Conscious Practice to Transformation For more than two decades, UZIKWASA has been learning with and from communities in Pangani, Tanzania, asking a fundamental question: What does it take to create lasting social change? This documentary tells the story of that journey and the lessons that have shaped the Pangani Model, UZIKWASA’s home-grown approach to advancing gender justice and climate justice through reflection, leadership transformation, community dialogue and action. At the heart of UZIKWASA’s work is a simple but powerful belief: Transformation begins within. When people take time to reflect on their beliefs, assumptions, relationships and use of power, new possibilities for change emerge. Individual reflection can influence leadership, institutions and, ultimately, the social norms that shape community life. Through Reflective Leadership, community dialogue, Theatre for Development, multimedia communication and Pangani FM, UZIKWASA has worked alongside communities, leaders and institutions to confront harmful gender norms, strengthen responses to violence against women and children, and promote more just and resilient communities. The journey has also been one of learning. Through partnerships with researchers, academic institutions, civil society organizations and other actors, UZIKWASA continues to generate, share and apply evidence on what works and why reflective practice matters for sustainable social change. Through the UZIKWASA Partnership Model, these lessons are shared with organizations and institutions seeking to strengthen reflective leadership, organizational learning and community-led transformation in their own contexts.
